A new Chardon Schools superintendent is expected to be announced at a special 9 a.m. Saturday Chardon Schools Board of Education meeting.
At the regular meeting on Monday, board President Karen Blankenship said they are in the process of negotiating a contract with one of three finalists the board, public and school staff interviewed in February.
The finalists are Painesville City Schools Superintendent Michael P. Hanlon, Willoughby South High School Principal Paul Lombardo and Brunswick Schools Assistant Superintendent Joelle Magyar.
A special board meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday to discuss and announce the choice of a candidate was canceled.
During Monday’s board meeting, Chardon Shools Treasurer Kevin Staller announced the district has received more than $23,000 in grants from the Fairmount Minerals Foundation.
In its grant letter to Staller, the foundation said “we understand that thriving communities help pave the way for a brighter, more prosperous future. We strive to connect with our communities by contributing time, talent and treasures in hopes of making a difference in the world.”
The grants are awarded “to the people and places that contribute to our prosperity by supporting educational institutions in the areas that our Fairmount family members work and live.”
The grants are:
• $7,465.35 to purchase a Mac Pro computer for music application and updated music and ukulele instruments that will serve Munson, Park, Maple and Hambden elementary schools.
• $5,000 to Chardon Middle School to be used toward an amplification project in 20 classes for reading, language arts, math, science and social studies.
• $10,000 to Hambden Elementary School to be used towards a Mobile iPad Lab with 20 teacher iPads and a mobile laptop lab.
