Republican Jerry Cirino, of Kirtland, announced Dec. 11 the official filing of his candidate petitions for the Ohio-18th Senate seat being vacated by term-limited State Sen. John Eklund.

Cirino, currently president of the Lake County Commissioners, will face Democrat Betsy Rader, who challenged U.S. Representative Dave Joyce in 2018.

“I have been humbled and honored by the overwhelming support I have received from the people of Lake, Geauga and Portage counties since I announced my campaign this summer,” Cirino said. “I will fight for our community in Columbus every single day and use my experience as a businessman to tackle the real problems facing our state and to continue the progress we have made. I am excited about our campaign and I am confident we will win in November 2020.”

Cirino was first elected as a Lake County commissioner in 2016. A native Clevelander and first- generation American, Cirino previously served as the founding CEO of SourceOne Healthcare Technologies in Mentor.

He also is the co-founder of MyBoard, a Willoughby consulting firm providing insights and services to businesses in a variety of industries.

Cirino and his wife, Donna, have lived in Lake County for more than four decades where they raised their nine children. They have 32 grandchildren, all of whom reside in Northeast Ohio.
