Cuyahoga County Man Found Dead Near Punderson Lake

An unidentified adult male from Cuyahoga County was found dead by a jogger at about 5:52 p.m. March 7 on Ravenna Road in Newbury Township, said Geauga County Sheriff’s Lt. John Hiscox.

He was discovered in a ravine near the intersection of Ravenna Road and Music Street near Punderson Lake, he said, adding the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to the scene.

There were no signs of foul play, Hiscox said.

According to the sheriff’s blotter, a witness said she saw the man, who was wearing a backpack, appear to bury something nearby on Sunday night.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrived at the scene at about 8:30 p.m. and took charge of the investigation, Hiscox said. An autopsy will take a couple of weeks and more information about the deceased was held until family can be notified.

The horse and buggy, driven by Norman Miller, 15, of Huntsburg, were southbound coming out of a private drive and failed to stop at the road. A Honda Odyssey minivan, driven by Wendy Thurman, 46, of Sharpesville, Pa., westbound on Burton Windsor Road, struck the horse.

Thurman, Miller and his passenger were not injured, the spokesperson said. Miller was cited for failure to yield and the minivan sustained front-end damage.
