Do you have a pet?

We have an ancient German Shorthair Pointer named Chester. We bought him to be a hunting dog, but he has turned into a couch potato.

Do you sell

non-chocolate goods?

It is hard for us to believe, but not everyone likes chocolate. To accommodate these customers, we have a selection of non-chocolate candy such as fruit slices, sugar creams, gummi bears, that sort of thing. Also, we have invested in high tech equipment that allows us to make great tasting toffee, fancy brittles and glazed nuts, among other things. We have a selection of non-candy items such as cards, stuffed animals and Jim Shore collectibles.

What is your most

popular chocolate item?

One of the stars of our chocolate line-up is our truffles. We make the everyday favorites such as chocolate, strawberry, champagne and seasonal favorites, such as pumpkin at Thanksgiving and rum at Christmas. Our newest truffle addition is Chai Tea. The bestselling truffle is a chocolate center dipped in either milk or dark chocolate and decorated with shaved chocolate.

How was the title of your business named?

We named it after the big white house where our retail store resides. Most people don’t know, but it is one of the oldest houses in Burton Township. It was built in the early 1800s by Simeon Rose, who came to Burton at about the same time as the Umberfields. In 1901, the house was extensively remodeled, probably after a fire. When we renovated the building for use as our chocolate shop and offices, we gave it a turn-of-the-century dcor for this reason.

How did you survive this winter’s challenges?

This has been a very challenging winter. We were lucky to have a break in the weather right at Valentines Day. We were able to dip and sell almost 70 flats of our signature strawberries; that’s well over 500 pounds of berries.
