Position Open on Geauga County Public Library Board
The Geauga County Commissioners are seeking applications and resumes to fill a position on the Geauga County Public Library Board. The Geauga County Public Library Board is a “body politic” in the state of Ohio and once appointed, library board members have authority and control over the library, its finances, policies and development.
The paid director and fiscal officer report to and work closely with the library board to implement its policies and directions. A strong commitment to excellence in library service and prudence in the expenditure of public funds are essential.
Board members serve a seven-year term and the position on the library board runs through June 30, 2022. It is an unpaid position and requires attendance at monthly meetings held throughout the county, participation in continuing education events and board committee meetings as required.
As required in Ohio Revised Code 3375.22, library board members must be registered voters within Geauga County, and preferably within the library voting district.
Applications and resumes will be accepted at the Geauga County Commissioner’s office, located at 470 Center St., Building 4, Chardon, OH 44024. Applications can be picked up at the office or found on the Geauga County website: www.co.geauga.oh.us.
Deadline for submission is July 27.
JFS to Distribute School Supplies
Now in its ninth year, Geauga County Job and Family Services is sponsoring Help Me Learn Day, a school supply distribution program for low-income families. With school budgets tightening, the list of school supplies students are required to provide continues to grow.
In 2014, Help Me Learn Day served over 610 children from all school districts in Geauga County. The supplies distributed range from crayons and pencils to binders and backpacks. All of the supplies distributed come solely from donations.
Help Me Learn Day will be held Aug. 10 at Geauga County Job and Family Services, 12480 Ravenwood Drive in Chardon. A second Help Me Learn Day will be held Aug. 13 at Chagrin Falls Park Community Center, 7060 Woodland Ave. in Chagrin Falls.
Families must preregister and demonstrate a financial need to qualify.
Last year, numerous groups, clubs, and vacation bible schools collected supplies for the event. Families hosting parties, birthdays or reunions asked guests bring school supplies. Churches collected supplies during their Sunday offerings. Monetary donations are used to purchase needed supplies.
For more information on making a donation or volunteering to set up or pass out supplies, call Sara Shininger at 440-285-9141, ext. 1263.
