The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Aug. 22-28. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 407 calls during this seven-day period.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
August 26
11:53 a.m., Ravenna Road, Claridon. Dark colored SUV parked in the ER parking lot handicap spots. There is a dog locked inside and it is clearly in distress. Deputy arrived on scene and located the vehicle in question. Noted, all four windows in the vehicle were 3/4 of the way rolled down, and a breeze was easily moving through the vehicle. Deputy interacted with the K9 and noted no signs of distress with the dog. Current temperature is 76 degrees at the hospital, and conditions for the animal are not dangerous.
CITIZEN’S DISPUTE
August 23
1:19 p.m., Forest Road, Claridon. Next door neighbor cutting down trees. He asked her to not damage any of his trees. The female started yelling and calling him names in front of his daughter. He has had trouble with her before and states this is enough. Deputy advised. Complainant given advice as to how to handle ongoing issues with the neighbor and property-line issues.
FRAUD
August 22
1:40 p.m., Franks Road, Auburn. Complainant was contacted by a subject claiming to be with the IRS. The male calling on the line stated the complainant was going to have a warrant issued for their arrest unless credit-card payment was made over the phone. The complainant hung up on the subject and did not release any information. Chief’s Facebook post states to notify the sheriff’s office. Male is at work. No money exchanged, just wants incident on file.
August 27
9:25 a.m., Hosmer Road, Parkman. Complainant had a vehicle listed on craigslist for sale. Complainant received a check from Executive Jet Management for $1,917.11 for a vehicle that was listed for sale for $1,000. Complainant contacted the business and asked if they issued the check to her for that amount. The business stated that they did not issue her that check and they have had four other checks issued to different people for that same amount. The business has already contacted Wells Fargo Bank and advised them of this incident. Wells Fargo Bank stated that they had investigators working on the case. The complainant will be sending the uncashed check to Executive Management for Wells Fargo Bank investigation. Complainant was given the report number and she was advised to contact him if she has anymore information and or problems.
HARASSMENT
August 24
12:05 p.m., GAR Highway, Country Lakes Famly Camp. Caller says that she is being harassed by her brother-in-law. This is part of an ongoing dispute between her sister and the male. He is in an older model Grand Am, dark in color. She believes it is still in the park. Possible alcohol, no weapons. Caller says she thinks he is still in the park because she can hear his vehicle; however, the mother advised the front gate to not let him in if he did leave. Deputy responded and spoke with the complainant, whose sister advised her husband, showed up and caused a disturbance by swearing and yelling. She advised he eventually left in his vehicle. She requested information about obtaining a TPO and I provided her with information. I also checked the area, but I did not locate the male. The camp owners were aware of the incident and said they would not let him return.
JUVENILE PROBLEM
August 27
6:15 p.m., Old State Road, Hambden. Caller reported kids are throwing apples into his pasture at his animals. Deputy advised and spoke with the mother of the juveniles involved. She believed the kids were just trying to feed the animals and did not believe the kids were being malicious. The mother will talk with the kids about throwing food onto the neighbor’s property.
NOISE PROBLEM
August 28
11:50 p.m., S. Brown Road, Hambden. Caller reported the kids of the person who owns this business are racing up and down the driveway and doing burnouts in the roadway with a truck. Caller would like them to stop for the evening. Deputy advised. No criminal activity noted. Spoke with the property owner who stated he will address the issues.
SUSPICIOUS
August 23
7:24 a.m., Butternut Road, Burton. Resident states that someone unknown was sitting on his back porch smoking last night and eggs have been smashed into his porch furniture. Having neighbor problems. No cigarette butts have been found. Deputy advised. Complainant wanted to document the incident. Possibly caused by an animal during the night-time hours since only one egg was smashed on the front porch furniture. No foot prints were located in the soft flower bed dirt surrounding the front porch.
August 24
5:25 a.m., Colburn Road, Chardon. Caller thinks that someone is bringing her a big sum of money. She was told to call 911 if this happens. Caller said she heard what sounded like glass breaking. Caller lives with her son who is sleeping. Caller also turned on her flood lights. Deputy checekd the area and yard. Nothing was found and the complainant was advised.
August 25
3:29 p.m., Patch Road, Troy. Male was going door to door asking for money. He was last headed westbound toward his house, which is 4-5 houses down. Complainant believes the male has a history of drug use. He was wearing a black shirt, jeans and a short-billed military cap. Deputy unable to locate male and vehicle is not at his house.
THEFT
August 22
10:43 a.m., Taylor Weels Road, Claridon. Complainant needed to report fraudulent purchases made on her credit card. The credit card company is currently handling/investigating the incident, but the caller has noticed that items that were purchased are scheduled to be delivered to her residence. Today’s packages should arrive at around 1 p.m. today and the caller is concerned someone may come on to her property to retrieve the items. Theft occured in Mayfield Heights. Complainant will call if any suspicious cars pull up to the house.
TRAFFIC CRASH
August 23
9:37 a.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. A school bus backed up onto a guardrail and is occupied by children. Does not appear anyone is injured, but it is creating a huge hazard, blocking the hill. Deputy advised.
VANDALISM
August 25
6:02 p.m., Tilden Road, Troy. The first house south of the caller is being vandalized. Small silver vehicle. The suspect is stuck in the ditch. The caller witnessed the suspect break the windows, rip out the screens, turn over the grill and destroy the garden. The homeowner just arrived home. The female ran into the woods. Deputy arrested one female for burglary and OVI.
