The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office March 6-12. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 293 calls during this seven-day period.

ANIMAL ABUSE

March 12

12:52 p.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Huntsburg. Between Kile and Clay Road a dog is dead hanging on a mailbox close to Kile Road. On the other side of the road, a dog is dead in the ditch and appears to have been beaten. Deputy checked the area four times and did not locate the dogs.?Deputy did find a Scooby-Doo stuffed animal strapped to a mailbox, but was unable to locate any other dog nearby in a ditch.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

March 9

2:09 a.m., Old State Road, Parkman. A black and white shepherd has been barking since 6 a.m. Complainant said that she tried to talk to the people and they are not willing to help with the situation. Caller would like to speak with a deputy. Deputy spoke with the resident and asked him to bring the dog inside. Deputy did not hear the dog bark, however, resident admitted that the dog has been barking as it had been keeping him up. Resident blamed increased late night Amish buggy traffic on Sundays for the cause. Deputy did not hear the dog bark while on scene. The deputy only made contact because a vehicle in the driveway had a dome light on and no one around. Resident advised he was aware of the issue with the light.

CITIZEN’S ASSIST

March 7

3:01 p.m., Hillendale Road, Chester. A female is watching the house of an elderly female who is currently in the hospital. She hears water running in the basement and is afraid a pipe burst. She is asking someone to come over and help her shut the water off. She doesn’t know where the valve is. There is three feet of water. Deputy responded to the residence and observed the entire basement flooded, the fire department arrived on scene and turned off the power to the house.

DISORDERLY

March 10

4:51 p.m., Auburn Road, Munson. At a house across from the school, two males are fighting in the driveway. No weapons seen. One male is in a small white vehicle and the other is in a white SUV. The caller saw them actively assaulting each other. One male was in dress pants and a blue shirt. The other was in jeans and a dark-colored hoodie. Both are white males. Deputy was unable to locate any vehicles or persons in the area.

INFO REPORT

March 6

12:17 p.m., Madison Road, Huntsburg. Caller was nearly struck by another vehicle turning into an Amish business. Caller had their turn signal on and a lady in a dark blue car tried to speed around caller’s car and nearly hit them. The lady stopped and had her face covered and then took off. The caller was advised that we could not make a citation, but she could still file a report. She stated she may come in to post at a later time.

JUVENILE PROBLEM

March 8

1:38 p.m., Kevin Lane, Hambden. A student posted a picture of a 9mm handgun on Instagram and stated, “I am going to protect my girlfriend, all you snitches better watch out.” No direct threats made. Contacted the principal at home via phone; he is not at the school. The school resource officer advised the principal to contact the sheriff’s office.

SUSPICIOUS

March 6

5:20 p.m., Ascot Lane, Auburn. Received a call from a female stating she was from the Walmart in Bedford. Female was asking to talk to caller’s wife. His wife was not home at the time. He advised the female that she would call back when she was home. When caller’s wife arrived home, they called Walmart, but the store said they never called his wife. No personal information given over the phone. Person who called complainant did not leave a phone number to call back. Advice given regarding scams.

March 7

12:58 a.m., Hillcrest Drive, Munson. Male states that he heard people breaking into his house. The garage door opened up and he saw at least two flashlights running in the backyard after he set off the panic alarm. He notified the post office and the children’s organization that he would not be home today due to surgery, however that was postponed. Caller does not think anyone got into the house, just the garage. He has a loaded pistol with him. He is handicapped due to his upcoming surgery. The people with the flashlights were shining them in through the back of the house while the garage opened up front. The male was advised to put down the weapon when officers are on scene. Deputy checked the area and found nothing. The garage was closed and there were no fresh tracks located in the area.

March 11

8:26 p.m., Kile Road, Montville. Caller states she came home to find her garage door open and the main door to the house unlocked. Caller was dropped off by her softball coach, her mother is in Newbury en-route back to the house. Deputy met with the complainant, who said he had shut his garage door when he left for the day. His daughter arrived home and found it half open. Complainant advised nothing appears missing at this time. Complainant checked the house prior to deputies’ arrival.

THEFT

March 9

10:26 a.m., Farmington Road, Parkman. Deputy responded to location for some suspicious mail the complainant received. Upon arrival the deputy spoke with the complainant and learned the following: Today when opening his mail, he received a pre-paid Visa card from T-Mobile. The complainant stated he did not fill out an application for one. When he contacted the company they stated the application was filled out on Feb. 27, 2015 in South Carolina and they had all of his information. The complainant stated no money has been charged to the card because it’s a pre-paid Visa which has to be loaded with money prior to use. The complainant advised the deputy the card has since been canceled and he has already contacted the credit bureaus and put a fraud watch on this credit account.

March 10

12:49 a.m., Plank Road, Montville. Caller came home and noticed her .22 rifle was missing. Did not notice any other items being gone, or any signs of forced entry. Complainant called back to advise she has located the gun and that she forgot she hid it last year when she went out of town.
