The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office June 19-25. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 410 calls during this seven-day period.
EXTRA PATROL
June 24
9:12 a.m., Burton Village, Burton. Extra patrol due to speeders all day long on Colony Lane and they are doing between 50-60 mph. We have had at least 4-5 accidents in the last year on Colony. Caller also advised there are no speed limit signs. He was given the number for the county engineer. Reference speed limit signs.
JUVENILE PROBLEM
June 19
5:41 p.m., Swine Creek Road, Middlefield. Juveniles playing in the creek. Kids told complainant they were allowed to play there by the sheriff’s office because no one owns the creek. Complainant wants to know his rights because the creek is in front of his house. Deputy spoke with complainant about the children playing in the creek. Complainant was advised the creek was Geauga Park District’s property and they were allowed to play in the creek. Complainant stated he was concerned if the kids got hurt, would he be liable?
PROPERTY DAMAGE
June 20
3:17 a.m., Campton Ridge Drive, Chardon. House was TP’d and a toilet was left in the front yard. Caller would like a report for extra patrol. Caller called back wanting someone to come out now because they are cleaning it up. They were advised a deputy would be there when available. She asked to cancel the call because she didn’t want to wait. Again advised a deputy would respond when available because they are on other calls.
June 22
9:46 p.m., Lakeside Drive, Newbury. Caller just returned home, appears someone ran off the road and damaged some of his property. Deputy responded. An unknown vehicle, being operated by an unknown person, backed off the road. Damage was caused to an association road sign as well as a flower pot and a tree belonging to complainant. Complainant wanted it documented for insurance purposes only.
SUSPICIOUS
June 22
8:10 p.m., Nash Road, Parkman. Caller found a container of white powder in his driver’s van. He will not tell me who the driver was, but wants a deputy to come pick it up. He believes it may be drugs. Deputy picked up the white powder and will enter it in evidence for destruction. Complainant did not want to provide the name of driver. Complainant’s co-worker found the powder in the van.
June 24
7:01 p.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. Man stopped by my house and said they were trying to get a scholarship. They asked for help with the scholarship and handed me items I did not need. Another male stepped out of the car in a suit with a briefcase. He appeared too old for college age. He asked to come in my house so he could plug in his laptop. I did not let them in. 3-4 individuals total in the car. All white, 2-3 males, 1 female. Teal colored SUV, NY plate. Called followed vehicle to Huntsburg and lost it. Deputy advised. Complainant just wanted this incident on file in case of any future incidents. She was unable to describe what make or model the vehicle was. Only that is was teal in color. Deputy checked the area and was unable to locate.
THEFT
June 23
7:32 p.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Need a report for two stolen weedeaters. Workers were at a job in Munson and someone stole them while they were out mowing the grass. Dispatch called complainant back.?He was advised there would be a delay.
June 24
7:08 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Caller states his vehicle, a Chrysler Sebring, tan in color, was stolen from Cabanas. It broke down there yesterday and it is not there anymore. Cabanas says they do know know about it being towed and the vehicle is paid off. Depute spoke with the manager at Cabanas. He said they had the vehicle towed because it was blocking the driveway. After speaking with the manager, deputy spoke with complainant. Deputy advised him his vehicle was towed by Kirtland Auto Body because it was blocking the driveway at Cabanas. Deputy advised the complainant he would have to contact Kirtland Auto Body tomorrow to get his vehicle back.
