The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office July 17-23. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 355 calls during this seven-day period.
burglary
July 23
11:21 p.m., Moseley Road, Thompson. Someone came into the house and took my firearms. Complainant believes it happened in the last couple days. Male has been out of town. Male states that neighbors had seen an individual around. Neighbor states someone talked to a deputy about this male. Male was advised not to touch anything if he did not have to.
CITIZEN’S DISPUTE
July 23
3:28 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Dispute over the driveway they share with the neighbors. Neighbor was upset about where truck and trailer were parked while the caller was unhooking his trailer. Neighbor started yelling and shouting profanities at caller. Caller states after he got the trailer unhooked, neighbor tried to hit caller’s dog. Deputy advised. Dispute regarding issues on shared property and damage to property and concern for safety of others. Spoke with other party; did not want to listen to any advice and stated the sheriff’s office isn’t going to do anything and nothing is going to change.
EXTRA PATROL
July 20
8:47 p.m., Owen Road, Parkman. Request for extra patrol between 4-5 p.m. Complaints of 4-wheelers on roadway and cars parked on the roadway in the evening making it a hazard. People are possibly consuming alcohol in the vehicles as well.
FIRE
July 19
8:16 p.m., Munnberry Oval, Newbury. Caller says their neighbor has a fire going; unknown if it is a bon fire or something else. Caller says it is not a structure fire; it is some sort of fire in the back yard. The caller says he is usually notified when the neighbors are given a burn permit and he was not notified of one this time. Female complainant is severly asthmatic. She is using her inhaler now. She needs rescue.
SUSPICIOUS
July 17
12:11 p.m., Norton Street, Parkman. Older male with gray hair and gray mustache walked into my house and asked my children if they were home alone and then told them he is there to help children that are alone. Male was driving a dirty red minivan, not old or new. Happened 15 minutes ago; unknown direction of travel. Wearing a red shirt with black writing and was skinny and tall. Male subject told the kids he was the police and just checking on them.
July 18
1:50 p.m., Hosmer Road, Parkman. Someone drove a garden tractor into the field and left it. Caller doesn’t know where it came from. Deputy spoke with the landowner, who indicated he will remove the tractor from the field and keep it at his house for safekeeping until owner returns for it. Info given to dispatch in the event the owner calls police looking for the tractor.
July 21
12:37 a.m., Music Street, Newbury. Heard people in the backyard. Husband went outside and said to call the police. They do not see anyone in the area. Husband does own a gun, but she does not know if he has it on him or not. Husband is now back in the house. He saw two subjects run south bound from the property, one had a head lamp on. Deputy checked the area and was unable to locate any males. Met with complainant who advised he believed there to be two subjects, who, after confronted by him, ran south then west. Complainant advised no damage or anything missing from his property. Deputies checked the area for several minutes and did not locate anything.
THREATENING
July 18
7:27 p.m., Shedd Road, Middlefield. Someone left caller a message stating they were going to shoot his wife. He has no idea who it was. He wants to meet with a deputy. He saved the voicemail. Deputy spoke with complainant about the threatening phone call. Complainant said the call came from an unknown number. Complainant said he does not know who the person is that called. Deputy attempted to call the number complainant provided, but the person who answered the phone said there was no one there by that name and hung up.
WIRES DOWN
July 22
3:24 p.m., White Road, Burton. There are signs on my road that say “No Through Trucks,” but one came through and pulled the wires down. Unknown if they are for power or other. Caller would like to see a deputy regarding the fact that a truck pulled the wires down and there are to be no through trucks. This is the third time this has happened. Caller said the drop to the house does have damage. Deputy responded. Unknown semi took down wires. Complainant requesting extra patrol for semis and speeders.
