The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Oct. 30 through Nov. 5. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 409 calls during this seven-day period.
CITIZEN’S DISPUTE
Nov. 3
9:48 a.m., Old State Road, Claridon. Caller paid contractor $1,500 to do roofing and sideing in June and he has done nothing and will not return any calls or emails. Complainant is elderly and is requesting a report. Civil matter. Deputy advised complainant to take matter up in civil court to address repairs that were not completed by contractor.
FRAUD
Oct. 30
12:15 p.m., Arbor Glen Drive, Chardon. Caller’s elderly mother has been receiving nonstop calls from a male claiming to be from Publisher’s Clearing House. Deputy spoke with the complainant who advised of the scam. The scammer called while I was on scene and I identified myself and advised him not to call again. The scammer had some choice words for me and eventually I hung up on him. I advised the complainant to look into obtaining some type of call management system. No personal information was given out and no money was lost. The scammer had a foreign accent.
HARASSMENT
Nov. 2
4:08 p.m., Bradford Drive, Munson. Neighbor is harassing caller and family. Deputy advised. No crime. Complainant stated their neighbor
is video taping workers on the
complainant’s property. Deputy found neighbor never entered complainant’s property. Deputy also advised complainant that it is not illegal for an individual to film from their own property. No right to privacy regarding being videoed while in public view.
SUSPICIOUS
Oct. 30
9:39 p.m., Robert Lane, Auburn. 19-year-old female is home alone and she heard voices downstairs saying to be quiet. The female did not say if there were any vehicles, no one should have access to the house. The father sent a neighbor over, dispatch advised the daughter to text 911 if she does not want to talk. Female says she cannot see any vehicles, but thought she heard a male’s voice. Located a friend of their son in the basement. He tried to tell her he was there, but she didn’t answer him.
Oct. 31
9:35 p.m., Reeves Road, Parkman. Pickup truck driving down the road, possibly smashing mailboxes, headed eastbound. Deputy re-sponded. Appears that there was no damage to the mailboxes, only knocked off posts. Contact made with the resident. No report needed.
Nov. 1
11:52 a.m., Paradise Drive, Middlefield. Older neighbor is driving around video taping the children. Deputy advised. Complainant was advised his actions were not illegal. Children were advised of “stranger danger”, not to talk with unknown people and safe zones they could go to if needed.
Nov. 1
4:55 p.m., Munn Road, Auburn. Caller states there is a tent on his property that he was not aware of. The neighbors do not know who’s it is, however, their children say it has been there for about three weeks. Un-known if anyone is occupying it right now.?It is zipped closed. Tent was unoccupied when checked by a deputy. Appeared someone may have used or is using the tent to live in. Bed, bottled water and some personal effects inside, but nothing located to show ownership. Deputy attempted to contact neighbor to see if they knew anything about the tent. Deputy placed large branches in front of the tent doors to see if they would be moved to confirm if someone was currently living inside. Complainant may call back tomorrow to see if anyone is inside. Complainant may also wait a few days and then discard the tent. At this time the complainant just wanted to know who was using the tent and had no desire for prosecution.
Nov. 2
4:13 p.m., Elk Run, Munson. Caller states his step children brought home a stop sign. Unknown where it came from. Caller found it hidden under some items in the garage. Caller states his step children are 21 and 24 years of age. Unknown which one took the stop sign. Deputy advised. Spoke to complainant, who advised that the sign was removed from his property by his step-son’s friend and his step-son was not at the residence. Advice given about if the incident occurs again.
Nov. 3
2:27 p.m., Kinsman Road, Middlefield. Male is trying to move his belongings into a vacant apartment that is not his. He is wandering around outside throwing peaches and talking nonsense. He is not violent at this point but the complainant thinks he may be off his medications. Deputy advised.
THEFT
Nov. 4
4:16 p.m., GAR Hwy, Montville. Caller raises deer. This morning, they noticed the gate open. They have been looking for the deer today. They now noticed that the lock to the gate has been cut, the deer may have been stolen. They had four deer that were taken. They have one deer that was left, it was in another pen. Deputy advised.

Nov. 4
1:51 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Thompson. Female in a vehicle unresponsive, appears to be breathing. Deputy responded to location. Took several minutes to wake up female driver. Female had a flat tire and passed out while waiting for a family member to assist. Female transported to Madison Hospital. K9 deployed around vehicle, no interest given. Possible medical problem. Husband arrived on scene and fixed flat on tire and took vehicle.
