The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Nov. 20 through Nov. 26. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 284 calls during this seven-day period.

explosives

Nov. 21

10:11 p.m., Madison Road, Montville. Caller states that he heard one explosion to the northeast of his residence. Second explosion just went off. Deputy received tip of shooting. Did a knock and talk. Residents admitted to shooting. Deputies could not prove tannerite use but advised residents at the location that it is now illegal to detonate tannerite. They were further requested to stop shooting and stated that they were done.

Nov. 24

12:20 p.m., Clay St., Huntsburg Township. Hundreds of gallons of fuel oil leaking in a basement. Just filled. Heading for a drain. Sump pump disconnected. Fire department advised they would call back when they are ready to clear. Deputy stood by as the fire department secured the house and placed the house key in a hidden spot upon the request of the homeowner who was previously transported to the hospital for a call.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Nov. 20

5:18 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Car broken down near landscaping company and caller noticed her mailbox was run over. She isn’t sure if it was hit by female in car. The female is in a black car. Caller states there appears to be damage to the front end of the car that’s pulled over in the landscaping company. Caller states her phone only receives text messages. She moved the mailbox into her yard and off the roadway.

SUSPICIOUS

Nov. 23

3:22 p.m., Nauvoo Road, Middlefield. Female called in on non-emergency line, stated help was needed at Madison and Nauvoo Road, then the line disconnected. Caller called back in and said her phone had died. She was calling to report a Great Dane who is always chained up outside. Deputy spoke with the dog owner. She just let her dogs out after she came home and is taking them back inside.

Nov. 24

8:52 p.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Gentleman sitting in a car at Circle K approached caller’s son, followed the boy into the store and said that he thought he was a friend of his son. They do not have description of the male or his vehicle.

THEFT

Nov. 20

12:46 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. Theft of red landscape trailer. Missing three hours. The caller’s girlfriend saw someone take it but thought it was OK. It went south. The vehicle that took it was a red SUV, possibly like a Trailblazer, with two younger white males.

Nov. 24

2:56 p.m., Quail Woods Drive, Chardon. My mailbox is missing. Occurred sometime between Sunday and last evening. Complainant advised he called the road department and they advised they didn’t hit it. It was a good mailbox made of wood, tan in color. Complainant will be home around 4 p.m. He will call when he is home for a deputy to come out. Deputy spoke to the complainant over the phone, who said the top part of his mailbox was knocked down or stolen. Believes it happened sometime Sunday or Monday.

TRAFFIC CRASH

Nov. 25

3:35 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Munson. A few addresses south of this, a female hit a deer. Everything is cleared out of the roadway, but they are requesting a tag. Caller’s husband is in a silver pickup truck at the location with the deer. Caller isn’t sure if she will need a report for her insurance company. Deputy advised. Deer receipt issued.
