The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office March 4 through March 10. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 277 calls during this seven-day period.
EXPLOSIVES
March 5
3:55 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. Caller heard an explosion and sees smoke. Explosion came from across the street, does not see fire but a large amount of red/orange smoke. Spoke to the resident who stated they set off a chalk firework for their new baby reveal which caused all the smoke. Party stated nothing more will be going off.
INFO REPORT
March 10
4:14 p.m., Main Market Road, Troy. There is supposed to be a party on Saturday night after dark in the woods. The caller says that the party will be pay-to-enter and is being held for Amish juveniles. There will be alcohol served to the minors, possibly drugs.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
March 4
8:40 a.m., Reeves Road, Parkman. Caller thinks someone might have tampered with his well. Complainant stated that the top of his well was damaged possibly Wednesday night after 11 p.m. Complainant noticed the top of his well broken the other day. Complainant’s dog was barking Wednesday evening and that was when the complainant thought it was damaged. Complainant is in the process of getting his drinking water tested to make sure everything’s OK with it. Unknown suspects at this time.
March 6
3:07 p.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Caller would like to make a report about damage that was done to her mailbox. She also noticed damage to her neighbor’s mailbox. States she heard a noise last night around 11 p.m. but was unsure if that was what caused the damage. Dispatch responded to location. Owners of mailboxes state approximately $300 worth in damage. Vehicle part located in the area and appears to be a white colored Land Rover. Photographs taken and info passed on in case someone reports damage to vehicle.
SUSPICIOUS
March 4
10:15 a.m., Bell Street, Newbury. Caller is concerned about the strange behavior of the Dish Network tech that was just at the house. He was asking questions about her golden retrievers and implying he knew what kind of pets she had. She was confused because the dogs were never seen by the tech. Caller does not need to meet with a deputy. She is requesting extra patrol and will notify the sheriff’s office if he has any further problems.
March 5
3:04 p.m., Beechwood Drive, Newbury. The caller advised there are two trucks in the driveway of this residence. The house has been vacant. The caller stated there are people taking things out of the house. The caller does not know if they were hired to clean out the house or not. Brother of the deceased homeowner was moving out items for the ex-wife.
March 8
9:25 a.m., GAR?Highway, Hambden. Semi has been parked in the plaza lot. Last night at 3 a.m. it was running. Would like it checked. Caller would just like a phone call, she lives in the area. Deputy spoke with the driver of the semi; he stated he stopped overnight to rest and has pick-up in Chesterland in the a.m.
March 9
10:05 a.m., GAR Highway, Montville. Just east of the bar, on the north side of the road, there is an abandoned house and there is an old beat up white car in the driveway. The caller has no idea who owns the property. She just goes there and picks flowers whenever she is passing by. Deputy checked the vehicle and property with K9. Vehicle has a flat tire with a jack still under it. Property checked OK. Unable to locate a number for vehicle owner.
March 9
4:46 p.m., Moseley Road, Thompson. The caller advised across from her house there is a male sitting in a field with a bicycle. He has something sitting on his lap. The caller does not know if he has any weapons. He is wearing all black. He is a white male with brown curly hair. He is acting like he is under the influence of something. The caller came home from work 30 minutes ago and saw him. She does not know how long he has been in the field. Deputy responded. Juvenile on bike ride. Stopped in field to take a break.
March 10
6:52 a.m., Autumn Ridge Drive, Munson. Woke up this morning and his wife’s vehicle was at the bottom of the driveway in the yard. No one else has keys to the vehicle and no one else lives there except the two of them. Caller would like to speak to a deputy. Upon arrival, deputy observed that the vehicle is a standard shift and was currently in neutral. Owner states that the vehicle was locked and that the E-brake was engaged. Also stated that the vehicle was in for service on the previous day. Advised to contact the mechanic and inquire about work that may have been done to the E-brake mechanism. Nothing suspicious suspected.
