The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office April 15 through April 21. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 330 calls during this seven-day period.

FIREWORKS

April 21

11:16 p.m., Stafford Road, Auburn. Someone was throwing explosives out of their vehicle. Unknown direction of travel. Caller states they threw out two rounds of some type of explosives. Caller believes they were fireworks of some type. Deputy checked area and was unable to locate.

FRAUD

April 16

2:11 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. Client in our group home is receiving scam calls about being a winner of a grant for $9,000. Metzenbaum staff is at the location with the client advising a report is needed. Dispatch responded to location and met with the client and staff member. Government grant scam, called from a voip number. No personal info given out and no money lost. Helped client block the number on her cell phone. Advice given.

GAS LEAK

April 15

5:55 p.m., Turner Drive, Aquilla. There was a piece of tubing sticking out and the caller accidentally broke the line and there was propane leaking out. She has it turned off at the source. The caller would like it checked to be sure it is not a hazard until Amerigas can repair it.

HARASSMENT

April 18

8:16 a.m., Park Drive, Middlefield. At 6:45 a.m. this morning, there was a gray Honda parked in front of my driveway waiting for the bus. He was asked to move so complainant can get out. He wouldn’t move. He kept arguing about his being a public roadway. At 8:06 a.m., the male came back for the second bus and he was giving the complainant the finger with his kids in the car. On-going harassment. Male left beeping horn. Complainant has this on video and wants to keep on file.

LITTERING

April 21

3:04 p.m., Hobart Road, Parkman. Caller said that he had his roof removed and the dumpster was full. When the Dumpster was removed, there was a lot of trash left in the yard. The caller would like to file littering charges. The caller does not know which company picked up the Dumpster or whose Dumpster it was. Deputy advised. Complaint wanted the event documented that his garbage was removed from the Dumpster and placed in his driveway. Complainant is in process of cleaning it up.

SUSPICIOUS

April 16

12:35 p.m., Paradise Drive, Middlefield. Male at Terrace Drive taking pictures of a young boy riding his bike. Male was seen driving his car around the park. One vehicle was silver and the other was gold. Caller went to Middlefield Police Department to report this. Caller’s mother also witnessed this male. Deputy spoke with the caller, advised that it was not illegal to take pictures. Further advised to speak to their children about “stranger danger.”

April 16

9:41 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Caller says that there is a very strong smell of marijuana coming from the trailer. Deputies arrived on scene and walked around the trailer. Deputies could smell a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the trailer. Deputies then spoke with the owners of the trailer who stated that their was no one inside the residence smoking marijuana. Deputies asked the owners if they could come inside and take a look. Deputies again smelled a strong odor of marijuana while walking down the hallway. No drugs or drug paraphernalia were located nor were they in plain view of the deputies. Advice given to the owner.

April 20

9:11 p.m., Bundysburg Road, Middlefield. There is a minivan parked in the roadway. The caller was told by deputies to call if any vehicles were sitting in the roadway. Caller would like the vehicle checked. Elderly male, amish taxi driver, sits in this area to get caught up on his paperwork. Advised to find a better location.
