The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriffs Office Jan. 18-24. In total, the sheriffs office handled 383 calls during this seven-day period.
Agency Assist
Jan. 24
8:46 a.m., Abbey Road, Lorain. Request deputy and K-9 for a sweep at Lorain Community College. The National Guard is deploying tomorrow and they requested the sweep. Tomorrow at 7 a.m. meet at the sheriffs office.
Citizen Dispute
Jan. 23
9:52 a.m., Kinsman Road, Middlefield. She gave her neighbor $300 to give to another party for a transmission and she still does not have the transmission. He was supposed to get it and put it in. She has called subject and he keeps giving her the run around. She is requesting to speak with a deputy. Civil matter. Advice given.
Domestic Dispute
Jan. 20
11:04 p.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. Caller said he ran his credit cards up and his mom got violent with him and pushed him. Complainant was upset about an unpaid bill. He didnt have any injuries; he said his mother pushed him. His mother advised he was blocking her in the hallway, so she pushed his arm away to get passed him. Advice given.
Domestic Violence
Jan. 19
10:04 a.m., Madison Road, Montville. Eighteen-year-old pulled a knife on her dad. The knife is away from her at this time and husband has her restrained at this time. She wasnt listening to her father and he wouldnt let her go to work until matter was resolved. She has broken his finger, pulled his hair, scratched him in the past. Other boys are helping hold her down. Report taken and will be forwarded to prosecutor for review.
Fraud
Jan. 214:35 p.m., Jug Street, Troy. Caller was scammed out of $750 on a website on U-Ship.com. Needs to make police report. Caller was trying to hire someone to ship a horse to her and paid upfront. Deputy advised.
Harassment
Jan. 18
7:38 p.m., Woodlawn Road, Hambden. Caller advised his sister is sending him harassing messages. Harassing text are over their fathers will. No crime committed. Advice given.
Juvenile Problem
Jan. 18
9:23 a.m., Ravenna Road, Claridon. Subject is in the ER. Problem occurred at school this morning. Another student pushed my 12-year-old son into a wall. He has a bump on the back of his head. Wants to make a report. Father wanted incident documented in order to recoup medical costs. IR only at this time. Extent of injury is minor.
Suspicious
Jan. 18
3:59 p.m., Lake Drive, Newbury. Male ice fishing on the lake. Caller is concerned because she thinks he may get hurt. Male does have a boat, but is walking out on the ice as well. Spoke with two juveniles who stated they walked out onto ice. Warned both of dangers.
Jan. 20
5:04 a.m., Ravenna Road, Claridon. Nursing supervisor called and said they had a patient who went into cardiac arrest and when they went in to do CPR, one of the nurses noticed a webcam had been set up by the family high in the room. Security was called and found a laptop computer under pillows. Computer was in sleep mode. They do not know how long it had been there or why they were recording. They are concerned because there was another patient in the room and that is a breach of confidentiality. Hospital took possession of computer and advised legal team. Hospital is doing internal investigation. Deputy advised hospital would have to charge family in civil suit. Hospital advised owner of computer it would be returned after investigation is completed.
Jan. 21
12:28 p.m., Nicki Lane, Hambden. Watching neighbors house. Daughter walked over there and there were two people laying in the bed, money was everywhere. Girl was wearing black jeans and the boys was covered. Late 20s or 30s. Walking out the back door. Daughter has never seen them before. They are running when they see us. Report to follow.
Theft
Jan. 18
5:28 p.m., Kevin Lane, Hambden. Subject is on post to report theft and fraud. No crime. Advice given. Teenager admitted to deputy that she in fact wrote the check in question and did not want to get into trouble with her father.
5:12 p.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Theft of a snowboard at Alpine Valley Ski. Reported by staff. Meet in guest services building. Deputy advised.
5:47 p.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Theft of a snowboard at Alpine Valley Ski.
Threatening
Jan. 22
11:58 a.m., Bainbridge Road, Bainbridge. Request an officer respond to the Kenston main office. They found a threat in a bathroom.
Welfare Check
Jan. 20
11:45 a.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. Welfare check. 911 call. Advising that the people are in trouble if they show the movie at the theaters. The presidents inauguration is today and tomorrow, and he called The White House but no one is listening to him. People can watch the movie at home where it is safe. Caller very agitated. He has gone around Middlefield telling people but no one will listen. Based on call comments, there is no crime in expressing a personal opinion or belief about a particular matter. No prior involvements or history on complainant that would justify welfare check based on call comments. No threats were made toward any particular person. Deputy believes complainant simply is calling the sheriffs office to express his opinion.
