Chardon Living Memorial Park will have a new restroom installed after the Chardon Planning Commission approved the project at its March 15 meeting.

The park, located on Basquin drive, was created in remembrance of the victims of a mass shooting at Chardon High School in February 2012. It includes memorials dedicated to Demetrius Hewlin, Russell King Jr. and Danny Parmertor, who were killed that day.

The prefabricated building, featuring flushable toilets, will be similar to those located at Mel Harder Park and the Maple Highlands trail head, City Manager Randy Sharpe said.

It will be heated through the winter, which Sharpe said would alleviate the need to pay an employee to keep the Chalet open for sledders.

Community Development Administrator Steve Yaney said the project will include improvements to existing trails.
