Geauga County residents will see familiar faces at the U.S. Bank Middlefield branch that opened Monday.
The branch, which has been in the Middlefield Giant Eagle store on West High Street since 1999, moved into its new offices at 14950 South Springadale over the weekend and had its grand opening Tuesday morning, said branch manager Marlene Vieland.
“It’s been a busy month,” she said Tuesday as numerous city officials and bank representatives enjoyed the catered goodies and networking.
Middlefield Village Mayor Ben Garlich spoke at the ribbon cutting, welcoming the bank employees to their new location and admiring the architecture.
“It was my sixth ribbon cutting in two years,” said Garlich, who has been a major proponent of economic development in the village.
Having a nice, new building and visible bank in the village shopping district is a plus for attracting more business, Garlich said after the event.
Vieland said she and Lisa Cook, who was welcoming visitors Tuesday, started their banking careers with the Chardon Savings Bank in 1979.
In 1984, Bank One bought CSB in 1998 and sold it to Star Bank, she recalled, adding in 1999, Star Bank moved the branch to the Giant Eagle store and changed the name to U.S. Bank.
The groundbreaking for the new complex on Springdale occurred in a February snowstorm and more snow was predicted for Tuesday, but Middlefield dodged that bullet and the ribbon cutting was well attended, Vieland said.
The U.S. Bank branch is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, she said.
The branch has a drive up window that opens half an hour earlier.
