Academic Decathlon Success

Last Saturday, NDCL’s Academic Decathlon team took first place in the novice division of the regional competition in Youngstown. Congratulations to the team for being named the Overall Novice Division Champions. Team members, who are now busy preparing for the state competition in March, won a total of 45 individual medals. Way to go, Lions!

Gold medal winners are: Joe Graham, in economics, science and social sciences; Connor Hren in interview and music; Jacob Kowalczyk in mathematics; Katie Moorman in art and essay; Mark Mullinger in language literature and mathematics; and Molly Smith in economics and social sciences.

Earning silver medals are: Joe Cermak in mathematics; Joe Graham in language literature, mathematics and music; Connor Hren in art, individual overall; Brian King in mathematics; Jacob Kowalczyk in art, essay and science; Katie Moorman in economics and individual overall; Breanna Mysyk in mathematics; Molly Smith in mathematics; and Maggie Wood in speech.

Bronze medal winners are: Joe Cermak in essay; Joe Graham in art and essay; Connor Hren in economics, language literature, science and speech; Jacob Kowalcyzk in economics, individual overall and interview; Katie Moorman in interview, science and social sciences; Breanna Mysyk in science; Molly Smith in essay; and Alyssa Strumbly in art, language literature and mathematics.

Science Olympiad Gold

Senior Noah Boksansky and junior Nathan Reed took the gold medal in the Remote Sensing event at the Solon Invitational Science Olympiad Tournament last Saturday. Noah, Nathan and the other Science Olympiad team members are coached by science teachers Chris Poulos and Guy Savastano and tutor Tammy Eicher.

Artists Earn Lakeland Awards

Congratulations to 45 NDCL artists whose works were accepted in the Lake and Geauga County Scholastic Art Awards Show. The show is on display through Feb. 24 at the Art Gallery at Lakeland Community College.

Students will be honored at an awards ceremony on Feb. 24.

Blue ribbon winners are: Mike Boehm, Emily Cross, Olivia Evans, Joseph Frankhauser, Michalena Mezzopera, Erin Stewart and Kendra Zbinovec.

Gold seal winners are: Kristina Douglas, Joseph Frankhauser, Jack Hyland, Mike Mandac, Anna Martin, Anika Prots and Kathrine Zmina.

Students earning honorable mention are: Nina Berschig, Lindsey Campany, Sydney Campany, Olivia Coleman, Alyssa Daddario, Maura Dempsey, Kasey Gilson, Mike Hallai, Eric Knapik, Josie Lausin, Katie Martin and Anna Martin.

Judges Choice winners are Hallie Stacho and Sydney Stefanek.
