Juniors Jon Courtney and Dayna Rakoczy are Berkshire’s first state champions scoring higher than anyone else in the state on the 2017 Americanism and Government Test of the Ohio American Legion that is open to students in grades 10, 11 and 12.

Burton Elementary School fifth- and sixth-grade science teacher Amy Hochschild had such an incredible response to join STEM club this year that she had to create two separate STEM club groups to accommodate all the eager students. In a recent project, students worked in small groups to build towers using only toothpicks and clay with the goal of creating the tallest, structurally sound tower.

The fifth-grade classes at Burton and Ledgemont elementary schools recently graduated from the D.A.R.E. program, which empowers students to respect others and choose to lead lives free from violence, substance abuse, and other dangerous behaviors.
