Senior Career Readiness Day
Berkshire and Newbury seniors participated in a career readiness day on Nov. 11 at the Kent State University Geauga branch. The event was the third in a series of career readiness exploration days the students have participated in during the past three years. The Berkshire and Newbury school districts have collaborated with the Geauga Growth Partnership to create and implement the program.
Mr. Carrao delivered the keynote address to start the day, which was followed by an introduction to LinkedIn. Students then went into the computer labs to create their LinkedIn accounts and begin building their electronic resumes.
After the LinkedIn activity, “5 Different Paths to your Careers” breakout sessions were scheduled allowing students to rotate into each group. The sessions included: Preparing yourself for college; Leveraging future employers’ development programs; Scholarship and financing; Career paths for EMTs or paramedic careers; and Career paths in the medical field.
Junior Achievement finished the day with a soft skills exercise for success activity. Students were divided into groups of four and had to work together to build a sturdy tower with paper and paperclips in 10 minutes.
Along with the Geauga Growth Partnership, Berkshire wants to thank Great Lake Cheese and Kent State Geauga for providing the day for the students.
