COSI Visits Ledgemont

Ledgemont Elementary School welcomed COSI on Feb. 26. Coleen Bosche led the students through several interactive science presentations in the gym. Students were called on to participate and learn how science affects their daily lives.

Students enjoyed COSI’s Body Mechanic and learned what it takes to keep their body engines in tip-top shape. They explored the digestive, nervous and circulatory systems, plus learned about nutrients and how exercise keeps their bodies healthy.

The school thanks the community volunteers who assisted with the program.

STEM Club Field Trip

Students from the Burton Elementary School STEM Club went on a trip to Rockwell Automation in Mayfield Heights on Feb. 23 to help them celebrate National Engineers Week. STEM Club members were able to tour the facilities and participate in various activities using their STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills.

The students rotated through four different activities. First, they programmed a Lego robot to follow assorted paths, and then they programmed a conveyor belt machine that used object and metal sensors to control how parts were combined by the conveyor belt.

They also built a structure from popsicle sticks and pipe cleaners to protect an egg. Then they tested it to see how well it held up to shock tests on a vibration platform. Finally, they attended a buzzer activity where each team raced to be the first to answer questions about logo, product branding and product marketing.
