R.A. Horn Award

On April 27 at the Outstanding Achievement Ceremony held at Auburn Career Center’s auditorium, sixth-grader Jacob Zeiler received the R. A. Horn Outstanding Achievement Award. Jacob was recognized by the Lake and Geauga County Educational Service Centers for his academic progress at Burton Elementary School. Teachers Marla Whitney, Sara O’Connor and Michelle Burnett along with principal Mandy Randles also recognized Jacob.

LES Invention Convention

Ledgemont Elementary School first-graders held their “Invention Convention” on April 29. Mrs. Girdler and Mrs. Zembower’s students displayed their inventions and addressed everyone describing how the inventions worked. The students were asked to work on a project and create something that would be useful at home.

Artists and Authors Night

Burton Elementary School’s second annual Artists and Authors Night was held April 14. The event was well attended by school families. The students each had an art piece and a book on display that they authored themselves. Students and parents were able to read and sign the books to support the students.

Artist and author Kevin Luthardt came during the day to give a presentation to the students and was present in the evening to help with the canvas paintings. The art pieces were available for purchase, along with three art canvas pieces that were auctioned off.

All money collected from the event goes to school-wide programs. A special thanks goes to The Lilac Garden and Geauga Glass for sponsoring the painting table. It was a great event, and the school looks forward to next year.
