Read The Most From Coast To Coast
Mrs. Cardinal’s third-grade class participated in the “Read the Most From Coast to Coast” contest. The national reading event began last school year. It challenges students to join together to break the record for the number of Accelerated Reader Quizzes taken in one day. The record they will attempt to top, which was set last school year, is 3,581,992 quizzes. Good luck!

7th-Grade Language Arts
Question boxes were used for the novels “Fahrenheit 451” and “The Giver.” Students who are shy or have not taken the opportunity in class can use the boxes to ask Mrs. Smith questions about the novel.

Balsa Bridge Competition
Congratulations to Sam Heredos, Adam Filla and Ryan Mazanec for finishing first at Case Western Reserve University’s Balsa Bridge Competition in the aesthetics section of the competition. They competed against 11 schools and 78 different teams. The competition judges workmanship and thought process of their design. As a team, their cash prize is $75.
Additionally, two other teams rounded out the top 10 in this category. The team of Jimmy Dhayer and Andrew Jesunas finished seventh and Becca Wolff and Eleni Timas finished 10th. On the strength side of the competition, Cardinal had two teams in the top 25, with Jimmy Dhayer and Andrew Jesunas holding 505 times their own bridge weight.

March Madness Double Elimination Tournament
Cardinal Athletic Boosters will hold a 3-on-3 Double Elimination Tournament on March 15 at Cardinal Middle School from 5 p.m. until completion.
The tournament will be broken down into the following boys and girls age brackets: third and fourth-grades, fifth and sixth-grades, seventh and eighth-grades, ninth and tenth-grades, and 11th and 12th-grades.
Cost is $5 per player with four players per team max. Spectator cost is $3 per person and $1 per student.
High school officials will referee the games. Awards and bragging rights will be given.
Download the registration form on the school website or email Roblwicks@embarqmail.com. Registration and liability release forms must be received by March 11 First one hundred teams will be accepted, so sign up early.

CHS Mardi Gras
On Feb. 12, the CHS French classes held their annual Mardi Gras celebration. The students made masks, learned about Mardi Gras and ate French baguette sandwiches.

Scotch Doubles For After-Prom
Cardinal S.A.F.E. After-Prom is holding a Scotch Doubles bowling fundraiser March 8 at 8 p.m. at Ernst Lanes in Chardon.
Tickets are $40 per couple and include three games of bowling, shoes, pizza and pop.

Boosters Reverse Raffle
Cardinal Athletic Boosters will be hosting their 10th annual Reverse Raffle on April 6 at the Parkman Community House on Route 422, just east of Route 528. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner being served at 7 p.m.
Cost is $50 a couple, which includes one main board ticket and two dinners. The dinner features pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, potatoes, beans, coleslaw, desserts, pop, water, coffee and beer.
Grand prize is $1,500. Other fun activities and prizes include sideboards, 50/50, lottery board, door prizes, Chinese auction, silent auction, beer pyramid giveaway, booze basket giveaway, flat screen TV drawing and much more.
All proceeds go to the Cardinal Athletic Booster Scholarship Fund. This year, the Boosters will present seven $1,000 scholarships at the Spring Athletic Awards Ceremony in May.
