One School, One Book
Our One School, One Book selection has been revealed. In a special assembly on May 3 at CMS, students in grades K-8 discovered “The One and Only Ivan” would be the selection for this year’s reading assignment.
Every student, teacher and staff member in the district has a copy of the book thanks to all of the generous donations from the following sponsors: Great Day Child Care Learning Center, the CMS Student Council, Cardinal PTA, DonorsChoose.org, Geauga County Public Library – Middlefield and All Around Children – Parkman/Middlefield.
CMS ROBObots Event
After weeks of learning, building and practicing, the Cardinal Middle School robotics team competed in the Alliance for Working Together Foundation (AWT) ROBObots Combat Competition at Lakeland Community College on April 30. The team battled LaMuth Middle School from the Painesville area in the single-elimination tournament. Despite a strong showing, the team did not advance.
The AWT ROBObots was a pilot program in Northeast Ohio this year. Cardinal has received a grant to continue the program at the middle school next year with the possibility of implementing a robotics club at the high school level as well.
Students had to apply to be on the team. Members include John A., Jacob K., John P., Brenden S. and Colby T. Along with Schroeter, adult volunteers included Cardinal teachers Joe Sherman, Greg Cicero and Dave Bronson, retired Cardinal teacher Mike Cunningham, local EMT Courtney Schroeter and district consultant Claire Zurbuch.
Superintendent Contract Renewed
Superintendent Scott J. Hunt will remain in the pivotal role for three more years. The board of education unanimously approved Dr. Hunt’s new three-year contract in March. It will go into effect on Aug. 1, 2016, and run through July 31, 2019.
