Rotary Student of the Month

Chagrin Falls High School senior Mason Maschke has been selected as the January Chagrin Valley Rotary Student of the Month. Maschke was chosen based on his leadership and service qualities he has displayed in the community.

Maschke has been on the Honor Roll for all four years of his academic career and has received a high honor roll for several semesters.

He is a member of the varsity football team and participates in “Chagreen,” which is the Environmental Club within the school. Maschke’s extracurricular activities include volunteering at the Geauga Park District and working as an associate at Drug Mart.

Maschke stays busy outside of school with a variety of activities, including fishing for a variety of species, basketball, golf, reading non-fiction including several scientific publications and spending time with friends and family.

He has taken several AP courses, some of which supplement his interest in the sciences. Classes include AP Micro/Macro Economics, CCP English, AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Psychology, AP US History, AP Government and AP Environmental Science.

After graduating, Maschke plans to pursue a degree in science and is still deciding which college he will attend.

Kindergarten Online Registration 

Kindergarten registration for students entering kindergarten in the Chagrin Falls School District is online only. Incoming kindergartners must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2021.

Registration is now open. Complete the online registration through “Final Forms” by going to www.chagrinschools.org and clicking on “Quick Links,” which direct to “Student Registration.” Upload the required documentation.

Both half day and full day kindergarten are offered at Gurney Elementary School.

Full day kindergarten is tuition-based at Gurney. A $200 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a spot for one’s child in a full day kindergarten class.

Parents have until May 7 to make the choice. All students who sign up for full day kindergarten before May 7 will be granted a spot in full day kindergarten.

Virtual Conference Scheduled

Chagrin Falls Schools is hosting a virtual conference dedicated to the mental, social and emotional well being of children on Feb. 23 from 6:30-9 p.m.

The program will provide parents the opportunity to choose from a variety of topics that support healthy development in students. Participants will attend sessions via Zoom with the option to attend up to three different sessions over the course of the evening. Sessions will be led by a variety of professionals, including staff from Chagrin Falls Schools and Bellefaire JCB.

Featured sessions include: Chagrin Falls Youth Risk Behavior Survey; Self Esteem and Perfectionism; Identifying Anxiety in Your Child and Developing a Coping Toolkit; LGBTQ Youth: Providing Support; Teens and the Consequences of Risky Behavior; Signs of Depression – How and When to get Help; Recognizing the Signs of Depression and Suicide in Teens; Helping Kids Cope During a Pandemic (Gr K-6); Building Resilience: Supporting your Teen (Tween) During Uncertain Times; and Using Social Media Safely.
