Reboul and Currey Win State Championship
Chagrin Falls High School Speech and Debate Students competed in the Ohio Speech and Debate State Finals at Sylvania City Schools in Toledo on March 3-4.
In Public Forum debate, seniors Jack Reboul and Chris Currey won the state championship, finishing as the top team in Ohio. Their teammates, sophomores Sasha Haines and Maggie Mills, finished in the semifinals, placing in the top four; and seniors Max Di Lalla and Aidan Haskett finished in the quarterfinals, placing in the top eight. This was out of the 75 top teams in Ohio.
In Speech, senior Derrick Vehar finished seventh overall in Original Oratory. His teammate, Anna Sherman, broke to quarterfinals, earning a top 24 finish. Sophomores Eli Shall and Mikey King broke to the quarterfinal round in DUO Interpretation, finishing in the top 24, and Livi Andresen and Margaux Augier broke to the semifinal round in DUO, finishing in the top 12. Sophomore Robert Snider broke to the semifinal round in Humorous Interpretation, finishing in the top 12. Finally, the team placed ninth in the state in competition.
“This year’s success was truly a team effort. I can’t be more proud of our seniors who have consistently led this team to new heights year after year,” said head coach Ken Kasee.
Rotary Student of the Month
In recognition of his service and leadership qualities within the student world, Andrew Guggenheim has been selected as the Chagrin Valley Rotary Student of the month for March.
Guggenheim has been a “Tiger of the Semester” for the fall/winter of 2015 and 2017. He has acted as the captain of the Chagrin Falls High School Hockey Team from 2017-18 and received the CFHS Varsity Hockey Coaches Award in 2017. This year, he has earned a place in the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League All-Star Team.
Not only has Guggenheim been a part of the Chagrin Falls High School hockey team for four years, but he has also been a member of the CFHS men’s tennis team for four years. During his junior and senior years, he has played for the CFHS golf team. Aside from sports, he plays the cello in the CFHS orchestra.
Outside of school he is a part-time worker at Heinen’s and is a member of the Chagrin Falls Police Explorers. In his spare time, he also enjoys playing tennis at the Cleveland Racquet Club and club hockey with Stick Fix Cleveland.
His course load includes several accelerated classes: Honors English 11, Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra II, AP Environmental Science, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science Principles and has received early college credit through English 1010 and 1020.
While he is undecided as to where he will attend college, he plans to study business and/or environmental science.
