Money Raised in Memory of Friend/Student
In an effort to help fund children’s cancer research and spread kindness, Chagrin Falls Middle School held a “Kindness Elf on the Shelf” fundraiser.
During the lunch periods, Dec. 5- 20, students could vote on which teacher they wanted to dress up in an elf costume for a day. One dollar was equal to one vote, or $5 earned six votes. At the “North Pole Table” in the cafeteria were ”sELFies” of all of the participating staff members. Tickets were placed in the bag of the teacher students wanted to see as an elf.
The vote count took place on Dec. 20 and Mr. Geoff Brown dressed as an elf for the whole day on Dec. 21.
More than $200 was raised for the Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute. The institute aims to translate scientific discovery into clinical trials by understanding new disease-specific treatment options for children who have cancer.
]The fundraiser in particular was held in memory of Chagrin Falls Middle School eighth-grader James Edmonds who passed away in October after courageously battling cancer for two years.
Last year, the students decided the proceeds from the fundraiser would go to the Cleveland Clinic Cardiology.
