Students Enjoy Hands-On Learning of Country’s First Constitution

The Constitutional Convention was in session on Dec. 8, 2017, in Mrs. Chris Bauer’s class at Chagrin Falls Middle School.

In U.S. history, delegates from 12 states attended this meeting in 1787 to revise the Articles of Confederation, the country’s first constitution.

A major contention between the states was the topic of representation. Students acted as delegates representing both large and small populated states hammering out this issue. The result was the Great Compromise.

None other than the infamous General George Washington was elected president of this convention and he was responsible for keeping the delegates on task and constructing a new government, which was no easy feat.

Student Eddie Jansen dressed as the presiding officer, George Washington, and read the Articles to the delegates.

Basketball Team Teams with Empower Sports

On Dec. 18, the Chagrin Falls High School girls’ basketball team worked with Empower Sports, a nonprofit organization that provides sports and exercise programs to children and adults with various physical and cognitive disabilities.

The team attends a practice each year at the Solon Community Center to talk with the athletes and play with them.

Even though the team has games and practices six days a week, they completed eight hours of community service for the month of December.
