Artists Recognized For Their Masterpieces
The Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition, now in its 50th year, is dedicated to the educational and artistic advancement of talented young people in the state of Ohio. Chagrin Falls Schools recognizes freshman Maya Rooney and senior Katherine Baker for having artwork selected for the exhibition.
The exhibition is open to all of Ohio’s 1,112 high schools, both public and private, chartered by the State of Ohio Department of Education. Its purpose is to provide all budding young artists of the state with opportunities to advance their talent, whether that be through scholarships or simply experiencing the process of entering their work in a competition. The exhibition is a valuable incentive for young people; it encourages an appreciation for the arts throughout Ohio and reflects the fine quality of art instruction and talent that exists in the state.
Due to Covid-19, there will not be an awards ceremony or state exhibition at the Rhodes Tower in 2020.
Chagrin Falls Schools also congratulates the following students for receiving top honors of National Medalists in the 2020 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards: National Silver Medalist – Sophia Avery, sophomore, Grey Expressions; National Silver Medalist – Jade Kruyne, junior, Black and White; and National Silver Medalist: Jade Kruyne, junior, Willow Wood.
The 2,900 works of art and writing receiving national medals were selected from the more than 18,000 works awarded regionally with Gold Keys. This year, nearly 320,000 works were submitted in total to the awards by students from every state in the nation for adjudication. Students had the opportunity to submit to any of the awards’ 29 categoriea, including short story, fashion design, photography, memoir, printmaking, poetry and novel writing. The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers will hold a weeklong series of events in New York City the first week of June, including a digital ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 4, to celebrate the success of these talented students.
