WVIZ Innovative Educator
Chagrin Falls High School teacher Angie Jameson was selected as a WVIZ Innovative Educator by the Steering Committee of the Ideastream Education Advisory Council. Innovative Educators are selected as educators who share outstanding examples of integrating technology into teaching and learning.
In order to accept the recognition, Jameson is required to give a presentation at The Idea Center on April 25 demonstrating her teaching as well as an overview of the methods she uses to teach and how she integrates technology into her classroom. Jameson was nominated by fellow colleague Nancy Kevern.
Excel TECC Skills Competition
On Feb. 25, two Chagrin Falls High School students competed in the Excel TECC Skills USA North-Central Regional Competition. The students received a medal and qualified for the state competition. Congratulations to David McCuaig, who received a gold medal in Medical Technologies – Basic Health Care Skills; and Lauren Boral, who received a bronze medal in Medical Technologies – Health Knowledge Bowl.
Athletic Director of the Year
Charlie Barch, Chagrin Falls High School athletic director, has been recognized as the Northeast Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NEOIAAA) Athletic Director of the Year.
“Charlie exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism and has made significant contributions to their students, school and community,” said Kevin Leigh, awards committee chairperson, NEOIAAA.
Barch will be recognized at the Annual Awards Banquet on April 9 at the Sheraton Suites Hotel in Cuyahoga Falls.
Barch was hired at Chagrin Falls Schools as the District Athletic Director in the fall of 2010. At Chagrin, Barch coordinates the 24 varsity sports and 10 middle school sports. During his tenure, the teams have garnered 24 league championships, 10 final four appearances, five state finals appearances, and one state championship. Along with the team successes, there have been six individual state championships while Barch has been Athletic Director. The district has also had many athletic facility improvements since Barch began in the district. The high school gym hallway was updated, there was a new fitness center constructed, multiple scoreboards have been replaced, and the existing turf was replaced at the stadium.
Barch is currently a registered athletic administrator with the NIAAA and hopes to soon be a certified athletic administrator. Charlie is a member of the NEOIAAA, OIAAA and NIAAA.
GCCTM Math Contest
The Chagrin Falls Middle School (CFMS) math teams shared a morning of intellectual challenge at the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ (GCCTM) Math Contest at Hawken on March 4. CFMS was represented by 18 outstanding mathematicians. All teams were honored with awards.
Special award ribbons went to: The Mathletes: Molly Lowe, Aidan Stephenson and Christian Hoimes; and The Pink Zebras: Kasey Ruffer, Madeleine Scott and Elle Moore.
Champion awards went to: The Improper Fractions: Mary Condon, Holden Woofter and Ian Rogers; The Triple A Batteries: Alexandra Holtz, Aubree Daugherty and Adam Hamdan; and A SIN (of a good team): Annie Scott, Ben Streicher and Jackson Quinn.
Medal awards went to: The Thirteens: Trey Brosnan, Josh Rooney and David Skocic.
