CFHS Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad is an academic-based club at Chagrin Falls High School that exposes students to a variety of STEM challenges, practicing scientists and career choices. Students are offered the opportunity to complete in 23 different events, ranging from bridge building and air trajectory to anatomy and forensics.
The newly founded Chagrin Falls High School team traveled to Kenston this past January to compete against 41 other high school teams, including Solon and Mentor, two of the top teams in the nation. Jacey Workum and Sam Reddy received seventh place in Write It Do It; Danielle Currey placed ninth in Anatomy and Physiology; and Chris Currey and Jack Kukla placed 10th in Bridge Building. The team will compete in Mentor next and at Case Western Reserve University for regionals in February.
Business Class
Chagrin Falls High school students in Mr. Jay Schach’s business classes spent a day with library media specialist Lori Guerrini learning how to use the Business Source Premier database for research. Students will be researching current trends in industries, SWOT analyses, and other business information to coincide with their entrepreneurial class projects.
Business Source Premier is the industry’s most used business research database, providing full text for more than 2,300 journals. The database is provided free to the library through INFOhio.
Financial Reporting Award
A recent financial audit of the Chagrin Falls Exempted Village School District by Auditor of State Dave Yost’s office has returned a clean audit report. The district’s excellent record keeping has earned it the Auditor of State Award with Distinction.
“Good finance is important to everything government does,” said Auditor Yost. “Sound budgetary decisions depend on clean and accurate books.”
The Auditor of State Award with Distinction is presented to local governments and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit. Entities that receive the award meet the following criteria of a “clean” audit report:
The entity must file timely financial reports with the Auditor of State’s office in the form of a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR);
The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, single audit findings or questioned costs;
The entity’s management letter contains no comments related to: ethics referrals, questioned costs less than $10,000, lack of timely report submission, reconciliation, failure to obtain a timely single audit, findings for recovery less than $100, public meetings or public records.
