PTO Awards Grants

Chagrin Falls Parent Teacher Organization recently selected seven grants totalling more than $60,000 supporting the needs of teachers and students in the Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools during the 2013-14 school year.

The PTO raises money throughout the year with a districtwide fundraiser and one fundraiser per building. The districtwide fundraiser is a fall sale of wrapping paper and cookie dough.

School specific fund-raisers include a “31 Day Cash Giveaway” in the high school, “Sloppy Bowls” in the middle school and “CFIS Goes Hollywood” in the intermediate school. Gurney will hold its annual “Tiger Trek” in May.

In total, seven major grants were awarded. Grants to teachers and staff include 13 classroom amplification systems for the intermediate school; books to support professional study groups impacting all students and staff in the district; books to aid with the district goal of selecting the best methodology for promoting common responses for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder; and a high efficiency water cooler and filling station for the middle school.

The PTO worked with other support organizations to purchase 110 Chromebooks, licenses, service contracts and carts for the high school and the third-grade team at Gurney Elementary. Cooperation between support organizations was also used to purchase a 3D printer and design software for the high school science, math and art students.

The Chagrin Falls PTO represents four different school buildings within the school district. District officers oversee the entire PTO, which is run entirely by volunteers. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month during the school year in the Sands Community Room on the high school campus. All are welcome to attend.
