Chardon Fire Safety Visit

The Chardon Fire Department visited the Chardon Early Learning Center’s Tiny Toppers kindergarten and prekindergarten students on Oct. 19 as part of a fire safety lesson.

Students learned about all of the equipment on a fire engine and rescue squad and had the opportunity to walk through the cab of the engine to experience what firefighters do on the way to a fire. In addition, students learned the basics of how a fire is put out once the department is on the scene.

Speaker Amplifies Lesson

Chardon Middle School’s seventh-grade Accelerated English language arts classes, taught by Stephanie Curitore and Cher Culliton, hosted Drive Social Media’s Director of Franchise Stephen Curitore as a guest career speaker on Oct. 14. Mr. Curitore’s visit was designed to help enrich student learning — specifically for a product advertisement project the students have been assigned.

The Accelerated ELA students have been studying ancient Greece in social studies and read The Trojan War in their ELA class. As a related ELA assignment, each student is researching a character from Greek mythology and creating a product around that character. In addition to developing a product, students are tasked with creating an advertisement for their product.

To help students brainstorm ideas and understand how to go about creating an impactful advertisement for their products, Mr. Curitore discussed with students how influential advertising is, specifically on social media, and taught students the elements of a social media advertisement and what to consider when creating one.

Veterans Committee Hosting Drive

Munson Elementary School’s Veterans Committee is sponsoring a warming drive event through Sub Zero Mission at Chardon Walmart on Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The event is open to the public to donate new and gently used coats, boots, hats, gloves, sleeping bags and tents; and new socks all in support of the homeless and others in need, most specifically military veterans.
