Sing for Santa

Elementary students in Chardon Schools recently had the opportunity to participate in the Sing for Santa event with the Cleveland Monsters.

Along with music teacher Samantha Puterbaugh, students ventured to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Dec. 7 to entertain fans in attendance with their singing of several classic holiday songs.

The Hilltoppers were among the many local students who sang songs while featured on the jumbotron as Santa Claus rode on a Zamboni between the first and second intermission.

Unplugged Coding Exercises

Students at Park Elementary Schol recently worked on unplugged coding exercises with Mrs. Angelica Rohrich. The offline activities teach students the fundamentals of computer coding through hands-on and engaging programming.

In one activity, students wrote a program on a piece of paper using arrows, and then another student followed the programmed instructions to create a design out of stacked cups. If the programming did not lead to the correct cup design, the student looks back through the code to correct any bugs or errors.

The unplugged activity helps develop computer programming skills, which can be incredibly useful in professional settings.
