Topper Safety Leaders
New this year at Munson Elementary School is the school’s new Topper Safety Leaders program.
The program admits 10 third-grade students into leadership roles and supports the building’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports expectations.
Topper Safety Leaders are assigned hallway stations during arrival and dismissal at Munson to provide all students with reminders of expected hallway behavior and to provide assistance to students as needed.
The program not only places an emphasis on safety among students, it also provides these students with opportunities to experience leadership roles and to serve as role models for the entire school.
Child Find Notice
As required by federal and state regulations, the Chardon Local School District engages in ongoing Child Find services to locate, identify and provide a free appropriate public education (FAPE) for all children between the ages of 3 and 21 who have a disability and reside in the Chardon Local School District.
Child Find activities are conducted to create public awareness of special education programs, to advise the public of the rights of students, and to alert community residents of the need for identifying and serving children with disabilities.
In Ohio, Child Find is a legal requirement for all school districts to actively locate, identify and evaluate children with disabilities who may need special education and related services. This includes children from birth through age 21, regardless of the severity of their disability, and applies to those attending public, private and even homeschooling environments within the district.
If anyone knows of a child with a disability, or has a child suspected of having a disability, who is not currently receiving appropriate educational or related services, contact Linda Elegante, director of student services, at 440-286-0525.
