CHS Care Closet Now Open
Through hard work and strong community partnerships, Chardon High School’s Care Closet is now open and providing essential hygiene items and school supplies for all students in need.
The Care Closet was organized by high school teachers Kelly DiCato and Megan Wessels as well as social worker Joan Blackburn.
“The three of us have seen students in need for years and last year we decided to do something about it,” Mrs. DiCato said.
The CHS staffers reached out to several local businesses and organizations over the summer. The Chardon community has been incredibly gracious in supporting the Care Closet through both monetary donations and the donation of essential items.
Donors include: Chardon Smile Center, St. Mary’s Parish, Living Water Church, Celebration Lutheran Church, the Galati family, the DiMattia family, Carrie Weaver, Taproot Yoga, Weidig’s Floral, Chardon Baptist Church, Chardon Home Depot, PuroClean, Nora Seigner, Ten10 Design, Spinner’s Diner and Kirsten Thomas.
Donations have included a wide variety of hygiene products such as deodorant and shampoos, plastic bins for storage from Home Depot, dental care kits from Chardon Smile Center and more. Volunteers have also helped to keep the Care Closet shelves stocked and organized, including high school senior Max Sweeney.
“It has taken us a lot of hard work and time but we are so excited and extremely grateful to be able to provide this opportunity to our students and community,” Mrs. DiCato said.

“We hope to continue this Care Closet for years to come and maybe even expand it to other schools and community locations,” DiCato said.
