National Merit Recognition

Chardon High School senior Isabelle LeMaster is recognized a semifinalist and seniors Heather Humbert and Nicholas Gehrke as commended students for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Semifinalists are chosen from the highest scoring students on the Preliminary SAT and are eligible for the finalist award in February 2019. Isabelle joins the less than one percent of high school seniors who receive this honor.
Although commended students will not continue in the 2019 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Heather and Nicholas placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the competition. Congrats to all three student scholars and best of luck to Isabelle in the finalist competition.

Start With Hello

During the week of Sept. 24–28, Chardon Schools participated in the national initiative, Start With Hello Week, to teach students the skills they need to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness and encourage them to reach out to and include those who may be dealing with chronic social isolation. The annual Start With Hello Week raises awareness about social isolation and educates students and the community on how to prevent it through various age-appropriate students activities, contests and recognitions. Chardon’s Start With Hello week made a lasting impact on students and adults alike.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Young students and teens do better in school when parents get involved. Attending parent–teacher conferences is one of the easiest ways to be involved and help one’s child succeed. A parent–teacher conference is a great opportunity to discuss a child’s progress, share a child’s strengths and needs, and work with the teacher to help a child do well in school.

Parents and teachers have the same goal – to help children succeed in school. The next date for parent-teacher conferences is Nov. 14. Check with each child’s school to register.
