Calling All Hambden Alumni

Did you attend Hambden Elementary School? Do you have fond memories of your time there? Did you save any class pictures, report cards or other artifacts that may be of interest to current students? If so, please consider donating them for the fall celebration as Hambden Elementary turns 90 years old.

Especially of interest would be a favorite memory or two that alumni have of their school days here; please include dates. Xeroxed copies are fine or leave instructions and copies will be made and originals returned. Please include a self-addressed envelope if that is the case. The committee would especially love to hear from Chardon’s senior citizens.

Artifacts or recollections may be sent in several ways: By email: jamie.porter@chardonschools.org, with “Hambden Celebrates” in the subject line or mail to: “Hambden Celebrates” c/o Hambden Elementary, 13871 G.A.R. Highway, Chardon, OH 44024. Please include an email address in case the committee has any questions. One can also call Hambden School at 440-286-7503. The committee looks forward to hearing from everyone.

Thanks go to the Chardon Schools Foundation for helping to fund the event.

Safety Patrol Thanks

Park School extends its thanks to this year’s great group of fifth-graders who were part of the 2012-2013 Safety Patrol team, including Isabelle Marinchick, Tori Lowe, Aidan Macaskill, Chris Shea, John Mullaly, Trevor Neece, Hannah Means, Gwen Avery, John Meleski, Emily Blake, Casey Wilcox and substitutes, Robbie Frank and Maddie Barry.

Their hard work and dedication throughout the year was greatly appreciated. A special “thank you” goes to Mrs. Shalyn Swick for being Park’s Safety patrol advisor.

Maple’s Brownie Business

Maple third-grade students recently completed an economics unit that included establishing a brownie business. The class extends its thanks to all of the Maple students, parents and staff who supported the efforts.

As part of the economics unit, the students baked and sold dozens of brownies. By starting and running their own business, they learned about entrepreneurship, including pricing, advertising, production and selling.

Every student had a job and everyone’s job was important to the overall success of the venture. The profits totaling $363.63 were donated to Rescue Village.

The students also thank the parent volunteers, Mrs. Secic, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Bennett, Mrs. Feller, Mrs. Quinn, Mrs. Rozic, Mrs. Perrico and Mrs. Acuff, for their additional generosity and support.

Munson Night at the Museum

Has anyone ever wanted to meet Amelia Earhart, Anne Frank or Albert Einstein? Parents and family members who attended Munson third-grade’s third annual “Night at the Museum” on May 23 got the chance.

It was quite a night to remember, as the students, who had researched important figures from history, became that person in a wax museum presentation. Students dressed as their character and presented research they found on that famous person. Some had posters and others had PowerPoint presentations, but all were very convincing as they assumed the identity of their favorite person from history.
