National Merit Recognition
Each year the National Merit Scholarship Corporation conducts a scholarship program to encourage and recognize academic excellence. Students enter the program by taking the PSAT in their junior year in October. Over 22,000 high schools nationwide administer the test annually, with over 1.3 million juniors taking the test.
Kenston High School has three students who were named commended scholars in the Class of 2025 National Merit Scholarship Competition. These students are typically in the top 95% of all students who take the test. They are Michael Thompson, Addison Altmann, and Jacob Kovalski.
Exploring Nature All Around
Kenston Middle School fifth-graders are getting a first-hand learning experience that allows them to explore and interact with nature. The Nature Scope’s opportunity is through the Foundation for Geauga Parks, the first binocular-nature education program of its kind in the country.
The yearlong program accompanies the Ohio Content Standards for fifth-grade science education. Since its establishment in 2003, Nature Scopes has provided Kenston fifth-grade students with a pair of Bushnell binoculars, two field guides and a certificate of participation.
Flat Stanley
Third-grade students at Timmons Elementary School said goodbye, adios and au revoir to their Flat Stanleys as they began their journey around the world. This educational program began in 1995 and is based on the 1964 children’s book “Flat Stanley.” After Flat Stanley returns, the students will compile the information they receive in an effort to learn more about other communities, cultures and experiences around the world.
