Congratulations to Kenston High School Students of the Month.
Selected for special recognition were freshmen Sophia Kusner and Connor Quinlan; sophomores Ernest Manke and Alexandra Weinhofer; juniors Annie Rizzo and Donald Walukas; and seniors Maggie Krause and Brad Toth.
Ovations Awards
Kenston’s Center Stage was honored by the Geauga Council for Arts and Culture at the 14th annual Ovation Awards for area high school musicals. Area directors reviewed two other school’s shows and recognized the best elements in acting, music, technical theater and a category of their choosing.
“Damn Yankees” was honored with the following awards: Technical Achievement – Katie Blazek and Kayleigh Fisher for their work on sound; Music Award – Cameron Oakes for her vocal performance as Meg Boyd; Acting Award – Catherine Zickert for her portrayal of female sportswriter Gloria Thorpe; and the Triple Threat Acting, Dancing and Singing “Wild Card” Award – Kaitlin McGrath for her performance as Lola.
Sophomore Nathan Wasinski was recognized as the MVP of the show for his work in the cast of the musicals and dramatic performances as well as set construction. Joslyn Wrona was awarded a $400 Geauga Council for Arts and Culture Scholarship for her work on lighting throughout her high school career.
Innovative Teacher of the Year
Kenston Intermediate School teacher Kelly Johnston was selected as the first Geauga County Innovative Teacher of the Year by the Geauga County Educational Service Center.
After 15 years as a fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Johnston stepped into a new role this year as the integrated technology teacher. She continues to work with her colleagues to integrate technology into their classrooms and now shares her passion for technology with every student in the building.
