KHS Math Chair Honored
Mr. Greg Koltas, high school math department chair, takes on many duties in and out of the classroom. He has led Math Club for many years.
The Cleveland Clinic eXpressions Math program has recognized Mr. Koltas for his active involvement and commitment over the last five years leading Kenston students through this program.
In 2011, the eXpressions Math program was introduced and sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic. The program utilizes project-based learning to engage NE Ohio math students in exploration of mathematics, science, art and literature. Students select medical research projects that result in deeper, real-world understanding of these four disciplines.
The projects promote creativity, communication, critical thinking and teamwork. It challenges students to demonstrate how mathematics plays a key role in the project and the impact math has on society.
In 2016, Abby Fikter and Kenneth Lauer were recognized for their “Best in Show” in the eXpressions program with their project, The Brain and Graph Theory.
CIA Summer Residency
Kenston High School art teacher Andie Quinn was selected to participate in the Cleveland Institute of Art 2016 Summer Teacher Residency program. The goal of the program was to help educators achieve personal and artistic growth while strengthening their curriculum for students in the classroom.
As part of the application process, residents submitted artwork proposals and sketches of a piece of artwork they wish to create while in the program. The program required residents to commit to staying overnight in the dorms of Case Western Reserve University for a week. Educators had to let go of their regular routine and dive into a creative and competitive artistic, studio environment.
An exciting result of this experience was the opportunity for Mrs. Quinn to display her work in a selective CIA exhibit for two weeks in July. Her work was then selected for the 2016 State of the Arts exhibition at the Ohio University Art Gallery.
