Parent Teacher Conferences
Kenston High School will hold second semester Parent Teacher Conferences Feb. 19 from 4-8 p.m. in the high school gym. The College Credit Plus Meeting will take place at 7 p.m.
Geauga Co. Spelling Bee Winner
Kenston Middle School eighth-grader Sam Kress is the winner of the Geauga County Spelling Bee. On March 5, he will compete in the Tri-County Spelling Bee. The winner from Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties will be the representative in Washington, D.C.
College Credit Plus Program
The College Credit Plus Program (formerly Postsecondary Enrollment Options) allows eligible students in grades 7-12 to take a college course and earn high school and college credit that appears on both their high school and college transcripts. Students must meet eligibility requirements set forth by the college or university in order to participate.
Students and parents interested in participating in the program for the 2015-16 school year must attend the College Credit Plus night at Kenston High School, Lee Auditorium on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. There will be 12 area colleges present to answer questions as well.
Specific details on the program will be progressively added to the guidance website and in the high school guidance office as they become available.
Speech & Debate State Qualifiers
Four Speech and Debate state qualifiers and an alternate will be representing Kenston High School on March 6 and 7. After a long and competitive season, spanning from October until the beginning of March, the “debaters” will finally compete at the tournament they have worked towards all season.
State qualifiers in Expository Speaking are Emily Herbruck and Jimmy Spriggs. Nick Vitello qualified in Humor. In Prose-Poetry category, state qualifier Grace Rundelli will represent the high school. Freshman Maria Weil qualified for the state tournament as an alternate in Oratorical Interpretation.
Rotary Senior
Carri D’Angelo was selected Kenston’s Chagrin Valley Rotary Club Student of the Month. She maintains a 4.25 grade point average.
She has earned AP Scholar honors from the College Board and will graduate in the Top 15 of her class with an honors diploma and community service cord. She has been recognized by the Ohio Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association with Academic All-Ohio Award and Silver Scholar Athlete certificate. She also earned Kenston’s Scholar Athlete medallion in lacrosse.
As committed as Carri is to her academics, she has excelled in basketball and lacrosse. She was recognized as the team’s Defensive MVP and also received OSLA Honorable Mention All-District honors. She is a member of Principal’s Leadership Council, Spanish Club and the Business Club in addition to being elected co-treasurer of Envirothon.
Carri is a shift leader at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. She has volunteered as a youth basketball counselor and Spanish tutor and at Cleveland Food Band and Relay for Life.
She plans to study international business and continue her studies in Spanish.
Kindergarten 2015-16
Parent Information Night will be held March 2 at 7 p.m. at Timmons Elementary School for children entering kindergarten this August. Registration packets must be picked up at this time. Children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2015.
