Calendar Changes
With the recent calamity days due to extreme weather conditions, the following events have been rescheduled: KHS Parent Teacher Conferences, Feb. 26 from 4-8 p.m.; College Career Plus meeting, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. at Kenston High School, Auditorium; KMS Dance, Feb. 27; and KMS Winter Formal, Feb. 28.
Kindergarten 2015-2016
Parent Information Night will be held at 7 p.m. March 2 at Timmons Elementary School for children entering kindergarten in August. Children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2015. Registration packets must be picked up at this time.
Science Olympiad
The KMS Science Olympiad Teams placed 10th and 17th out of a field of 36 teams in the Mentor Tournament. Individual results are: Bio-Process Lab – William Parsons and Alexandra Weinhofer, first place; Write it do it Jocelyn DeCaro and Amelia Witmer-Rich, first place; Crave the Wave – Grant Nelson and Ryan Sauder, third place; Entomology Ryan Sauder and Anna Snyder, fifth place; Robo Cross Alex Akers and William Parsons, sixth place; and Crime Busters Alex Akers and William Parsons.
KMS Speech and Debate
Kenston Middle School students competed at the Gilmour Speech and Debate Speech Competition. McKenna Sawyer and Sarah Soryal placed first in Duo Competition. Earning first place in Drama was Marin Zoretich.
Samara Benza’s speech in Prose and Poetry was awarded first place. Elisa Costa and Kylie Rico placed second in Duo Competition. Skylar Laidman’s Humor speech earned her third place.
Audrey Oleskiewicz’s Prose-Poetry interpretation earned her third place honors. The Duo presentation by Annika Markoff and Zoe Spriggs was awarded a third place. Weston Gaskins’s Expository speech was awarded fourth place. Olivia Mendolera and Olivia Heysek placed fourth in Duo Competition.
College Credit Plus Program
The College Credit Plus Program (formerly Postsecondary Enrollment Options) allows eligible students in grades 7-12 to take a college course and earn high school and college credit that appears on both their high school and college transcripts. Students must meet eligibility requirements set forth by the college or university in order to participate.
Students and parents interested in participating in the program for the 2015-16 school year MUST attend the College Credit Plus night at Kenston High School, Lee Auditorium rescheduled for Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. There will be 12 area colleges represented to answer questions.
Specific details on the program will be progressively added to the guidance website and in the high school guidance office as they become available.
STEAM Night
The Kenston community is invited to STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art and Math) Night, a family event, rescheduled for March 18 at Kenston High School beginning at 6 p.m. Grade appropriate and hands-on activities will be presented by a variety of local corporations and non-profits.
