KIS Invention Convention
On Jan. 25, students arrived at Kenston Intermediate School to see a tractor in the front of the building. As they walked into school, old telephones were on display, the hallways were renamed “Invention Speedway” and “Learn A Lot Alley” and each classroom had a different name – the main computer lab is now “Circuit City.” Inventions with facts hung in the main hallway and the hallway to the cafeteria was adorned with clouds, as well as other inspiring invention decorations. Last, but not least, the cafeteria itself was a place for students to visually see how making good food choices will lead to a well fueled brain for invention brainstorming.
eXpressions Best in Show
Kenston High School seniors Abby Fikter and Kenneth Lauer win “Best in Show” in the Cleveland Clinic eXpressions Math program. Their project, “The Brain and Graph Theory,” outlined the ability to map the human brain’s blood flow, constructing a network of its synapses using graph theory. They defined graph theory using multiple examples, breaking it down into its most basic forms. The eXpressions Math program is an interdisciplinary program that utilizes mathematics to engage high school students in the world of scientific research.
