Clinic eXpressions Competition
For only the second time in NDCL history, students were recognized in all three categories in Cleveland Clinic’s eXpressions competition: art, language and math. Of the nearly 1,700 entries from schools throughout the Clinic’s entire market area, fewer than 7 percent earned the judges’ recognition.
This year, only 76 artworks, 36 writing submissions and five math projects earned awards. Nine NDCL students are among the winners.
“This year’s competition was incredibly tough,” commented Ms. Christine DeNicola, the Clinic’s manager of school based-programs.
eXpressions is an interdisciplinary program that utilizes art, language and math to engage high school students in the world of scientific research. Through project-based, peer-to-peer learning, students interpret, analyze and communicate research conducted by Cleveland Clinic summer interns.
In addition to being exhibited in the eXpressions Art, Language and Math eXhibition at the Global Center for Health Innovation in downtown Cleveland, the award-winning entries will be featured in the program’s print and online catalogs. The exhibition at the Global Center will open on Feb. 15 with a formal dedication and reception. Student winners will receive gift cards and their teachers will be awarded educational grants from the Clinic.
