New Training and Wellness Center

Student-athletes are pumping iron with renewed energy and loads of Lion pride now that NDCL’s new Wollschleger Weight Training and Wellness Center is open for business.
Funded by a major gift from class of 1995 alumni Dale and Lina Penkauskas Wollschleger, the new center has become an instant hit with student-athletes and their coaches since its ribbon-cutting and blessing ceremony on Oct. 19.

Dale, president and CEO of ExactCare Pharmacy, attributes his success in business to the work ethic and values he learned as a student-athlete at NDCL.
“It was great to see the Weight Training and Wellness Center vision exceed expectations,” Dale said after touring the new facility. “Lina and I are proud to help future Lions exceed their expectations. We hope this will help them work hard and play hard.”
In addition to several members of Dale and Linda’s family, guests at the blessing ceremony included members of NDCL’s 1994 football team, board members, staff and friends.
The Wollschleger Center, which is 40 percent larger than the old weight room, occupies space previously used for the trainer’s room and the health classroom. The center features an array of sophisticated equipment, including six custom fitness stations, an upgraded cardio area and a dedicated turf strip for agility, sprint work and dynamic warm-ups. Digitally integrated audio and visual systems — and plenty of blue and gold — create a high-energy feel to fuel peak athletic performance.
Health aide and wellness coordinator Pete DeMichele is ecstatic about the new features and look of the Wollschleger Center.
“This space gives us the ability to transform our athletes even more and to help us inspire all of our students to engage in healthier lifestyles,” DeMichele explained, noting that more than 80 percent of NDCL students utilize the facility. “The added space allows us to efficiently develop healthy fitness for everyone.”

The project team for the Wollschleger Center included Wojcik Building Co., ThenDesign Architecture and structural engineer I. A. Lewin. Bill Roediger coordinated construction as NDCL’s owner’s representative.
