Math Mastery
Peer teaching can be traced back to Aristotle and is practiced on the campus of Notre Dame Schools. Because NDES and NDCL share a campus under the umbrella of Notre Dame Schools, there are many unique opportunities for education collaboration.
On April 28, NDCL sophomore math students spent the morning teaching fifth- and sixth-grade math. This cross-grade and cross-school relationship allowed NDCL math students to master important math material while presenting hands-on math activities to small groups of NDES fifth- and sixth-grade students. The direct interaction between elementary and high school students promotes active learning for both, while allowing for a greater understanding of curriculum.
Biomedical Symposium
Several medical professionals were on hand to review student projects during the NDCL’s second symposium this year. The symposium is the capstone project for NDCL’s biomedical studies course. Science teachers Nathan Smith and Rebecca Weinfurtner ’02 coordinated the event with the professional assistance of Dr. Janet Poponick ’77, medical consultant for the course.
