National Merit Recognition
The National Merit Scholarship Program has notified seven NDCL juniors that they are among the top 50,000 scorers out of more than 1.6 million students who took last fall’s Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT).
Because of their outstanding performance on the PSAT, Emily Callahan, Spencer Jacobson, Elliott Martin, David Oppenlander, Mary Grace Raddell, Justin Satterlee and Sarah Uhran will qualify as National Merit commended students, semi-finalists or finalists. Those prestigious designations will not be announced until September.
“This is our largest group of National Merit qualifiers in more than a decade,” said PrincipalJoseph A. Waler. “They’ve placed in the top 3 percent of all students who took the PSAT nationwide.”
“I am so proud of these students, our teachers and our academic program,” he added. “Their outstanding achievement opens up many doors of opportunity for them and serves a crystal-clear indicator of the strength of our college-preparatory curriculum and instruction.”
Students Tour Lincoln Electric
Students from Mrs. Ashley Kelm’s NDCL Engineering Principles class toured Lincoln Electric’s world headquarters in Euclid earlier this week.
Here seniors Jack Mamone, Steve Dailey, Kyle Medves and Brandon Susel listen to a presentation about the technology that supports and propels Lincoln Electric as the world leader in arc welding, robotic welding systems, plasma and oxyfuel cutting equipment and brazing and soldering alloys.
Mr. Jon Kelm, an engineer who leads Lincoln’s Digital Control Group, hosted the students for their tour. Mr. Kelm is the husband of Mrs. Kelm.
FBI Future Agents Academy
NDCL junior Adam Schlereth recently received word that he is among just 45 students selected to participate in the FBI’s Future Agents in Training Academy (FAIT) this summer. The FAIT Academy provides students with hands-on training in investigative tactics, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, capturing criminals and solving cases. Participants will learn about various careers in the FBI as they interact with FBI employees in a series of engaging presentations at the FBI’s Cleveland Field Office downtown.
