Most Wonderful Time of the Year
It truly is the most wonderful time of the year at NDES with Christmas celebrations.
On Dec. 5, students in grades K-3 and the grades 6-8 choir performed “Songs of Joy and Season.” The beautiful selection of songs highlighted a variety of traditional and non-traditional melodies. Under the direction of Mrs. Mery Tomsick, the joyful harmony of Christmas carols delighted the hearts and minds of the young and old at NDES.
The next day students received a visit from St. Nicholas accompanied by Sr. Carol Marek, SND. St. Nicholas visited students and shared the importance of giving.
On Dec. 7, NDES parents and friends gathered at Landerhaven for the Holly Jolly Christmas Luncheon. The popular annual NDES fundraiser is in its 32nd year and featured a scrumptious lunch, many prizes and games and the sounds of the season presented by the NDES choir. A special thank you to event chairs Jennifer Wilson and Kristan Wojnar and special events coordinator Lisa Breier for a spectacular job. The proceeds from the event benefit the children of NDES.
The week concluded with an all-school Mass celebrating the Immaculate Conception. During the Mass presided by Fr. Dan Schlegel, everyone was called to lead from their Baptismal call, marked in faith to love others as did Mary, the mother of God.
On Dec. 12, the NDPA decked the halls of the NDEC Auditorium and transformed it into a shopping extravaganza for the annual children’s Christmas boutique. A special thank you to NDPA and Mrs. Halle Worley along with her team of volunteers for making the event a grand shopping success.
Rocking the Cavs Court
On Dec. 2, the Geauga Lion’s and NDCL cheer teams rocked the Cavs Court before tip-off. Last year, the Geauga Lion’s cheer team performed on the Cavs court. The experience was an overwhelming success and the Geauga Lion’s cheer team was asked to perform again. They invited the NDCL cheer team to join them.
The Geauga Lions cheer team and the NDCL cheer team have been joining their lively teams recently – first, at NDCL’s opening pep rally and halftime show and now on the Cavs Court. The joyful girls let their spirit show.
NDES Spins its Yarn
The Roman Empire at its height was the most extensive political and social structure in western civilization. Over time, the Roman Empire split into different parts. Students in Ms. Owens seventh-grade social studies class are discovering the events that caused the Roman Empire to split. To illustrate this, students drew the continents of Europe, North Africa and Western Asia and then outlined the different parts of the Roman Empire in yarn. They labeled key areas and created other symbols, which reveal the significant elements that contributed to the fall of the Roman Empire.
In-School Hour of Code
Last week, students in Mrs. Martie Hays grades K-4 computer class and Mrs. Juli O’Connell’s grades 5-8 computer class participated in the largest learning event in the world — the worldwide “Hour of Code.” The program was developed through code.org as an introduction to computer science designed to demystify “code.” It demonstrates that anybody can learn the basics and broadens participation in the field of computer science. Students in grades K-8 will have the opportunity to write code during the Hour of Code in upcoming weeks.
