 Math Made Yummy

Students in Mrs. Joelle Coates’ third-grade math class are using Cheerios to manipulate and visualize multiplication and division problems.  The activity reinforces fact families and allows them to compare a variety of solution strategies that illustrate relationships between multiplication and division.

Using activities such as Cheerios math provides a fun activity that engages students and increases both interest and enjoyment of mathematics.

A Day of Clay

Last week, the eighth-grade experienced Day of Clay, an annual tradition at NDES. As part of the visual arts program, the students spent a day building a three-dimensional piece of art of their own design.

Armed with their imagination, students transform slabs of clay into a pot, platter or bowl.  Each piece is fired, glazed and serves as a wonderful memory of their time at NDES.
