A Campus that Cares

Reaching out to help members of the community is an integral part of NDES’ core values. Last week, under the guidance of moderators Kayla O’Brien and Juli O’Connell, NDES Student Council boxed and transported 892 non-perishable food items to the Geauga Food Bank in Chagrin Falls as they wrapped up the campus that Cares Food Drive held in collaboration with NDCL and Notre Dame Elementary Preschool.

During October, NDES held a drive to raise money for the missionary endeavors of our Church. Through the generosity of the NDES family, the school donated $1,050 to Notre Dame Global Missions for tuition and board for three Aloysia children in Tanzania. It also sent $525 to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith for the Missionary Childhood Association, which serves children around the world.

Curriculum under the Dome

Fifth-grade students in Mrs. Cara Niksa’s class expanded their current knowledge of the solar system with a session of the Geauga Parks Nature Scopes. Students spent the morning under a makeshift dome viewing constellations and discovering the mysteries of moon phases and stars at other hands-on activity stations.

Geauga Park District’s Nature Scopes program, sponsored by the Foundation for Geauga Parks, creates a unique link between nature and Geauga County’s youth. Children get a close-up look at the natural world – a look that goes a long way towards fostering a lifelong appreciation of nature.
